Why I Stood in Line for an iPhone 3G Today

I just posted the following as a comment on a blog as to why I already purchased the iPhone 3G. I thought it might be appropriate to share on my blog as well. Enjoy.

iPhone 3G + Apple tattoo

I’ll try to keep this short and simple, but don’t be surprised if you get a short novel. I am a little offended that the beginning of this post [original blog linked above] begins with such bias as to say that if Steve Jobs branded a sandwich with the Apple logo a line would form to buy it. Give most Apple “fanboys” a little more credit than that.

I personally have an Apple logo tattoo (for the letter A in my wife’s name as she converted me to Apple). I also have a Burton tattoo on my foot. Why are both of my tattoos commercial companies? Read the rest of this entry »

Singing, er standing, in the rain

I’m at the Apple store in Gilbert, AZ standing for more than an hour now. It just barely started pouring and doesn’t show any sign of letting up.

So, while I forgot my chair, at least I remembered Katie’s umbrella and my Burton hoodie. Although it is really humid so I may lose the hoodie asap ;)

And a cricket just crawled up my chest. WOOT for lines

However, I hope to have a white iPhone 3G to show for it as I’m 9th in line.

So much for working this morning while I wait :(

I have a ton of stuff to blog about still, but no time right now. My wishlist: iPhone 3G, new Mac Book Pros, otherwise I’m sure I’ll love whatever I get ;) So here’s the link to the live WWDC keynote coverage I’ll be watching as much as possible (within work limitations):

And the end result that most matters:

Finally - A Dedicated Server

It’s been a long time coming, and I knew I couldn’t hold out for forever, but I finally broke down and got myself a decent dedicated server. I’ve done shared VPS and I’ve even done some good ol’ fashion home server management for the past year, but I came across a dedicated server deal I couldn’t resist and took the plunge. Look for (hopefully) better performance and page rendering out of my blog now that I’ve increased caching capabilities and minimized server overhead. Here’s some figures to compare my previous server (Mac Mini on my home network) to the new server (dedicated HiVelocity Server).

Here’s to you, iPhone Hackers

This video says it all. As I watched the list of applications come by with the theme music from one of Apple’s most well-known commercials I can’t help but wish that they would look back to their roots and open up the platform for those of us who always want to do more, just because we can.

I’ve installed Linux on my Xbox, PS3, tons of computers, and other pointless devices. I’ve installed Hackintosh (Mac OSX86) on my PCs just because I could. So of course, I am one of those who hacked my iPhone. What is my favorite application? Money. Yes, a simple program to track my receipts on the go so I don’t have to carry them in my wallet any more. Is that such a crime Apple? Is it really?

So again to all those who led the way in the iPhone hacking frontier I offer my thanks. Here’s to you, iPhone Hackers.
